Trend & Range — Breakouts and Fake Breakouts
What Trend & Range does
Finds the prevailing trend, detects when it stalls into a sideways range and draws that range as a channel. It then watches the channel edges for what comes next: a breakout that holds, or a fake breakout that is pulled back inside the range.
Accepted breakout versus fake breakout
A breakout counts as accepted only when price closes beyond the range and stays there, not when a wick briefly pokes through. A fake breakout is the opposite: price leaves the range, fails to hold and closes back inside, which often sends it toward the opposite edge.
Which timeframes matter
Ranges on the 4-hour and daily charts carry the most weight, because they take longer to build and more traders watch their edges. Every signal is logged and scored afterwards, so the hit rate of each signal type can be checked rather than assumed.
